If this is your first stop on the Campus Tour and you don't yet know what to expect and what the process is like, you can read everything you need to know on our homepage! However, if you already know your way around, you can continue right here, have fun!
Impressive, isn't it? In front of you is the Body of Knowledge by the Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. The sculpture was donated by the Johanna Quandt Foundation based in Bad Homburg.
The Body of Knowledge is 8 meters high and is made up of individual letters in eight different languages. When it is dark, lights anchored in the ground illuminate the sculpture, giving it a special look and symbolizing the fact that science does not stand still even at night, at least at Goethe University.
A quote from the artist himself describes what the Body of Knowledge and the university are all about very well:
"Our body is the seat of the mind. The university is an extension of our body. A meeting place where people and ideas, tradition and the future come together in dialog and weave the web of human knowledge." Jaume Plensa (Quote)

Thanks to its central location between the "Casino" and the lecture hall center in the heart of the Westend campus, the Body of Knowledge is also a very popular meeting and gathering place for students. Experience shows that the Body of Knowledge is also "the place to go" for demonstrations and political rallies.
